In its sixth year, The Herb Lusk Golf Classic for Children proudly continues the legacy of the late Herb Lusk to support youth in the Philadelphia region. This year’s Golf Classic benefits the Frederick Douglass Christian School (FDCS) in Chester, Pa. From 2014, when he stepped in to save the school from closure, until his passing in 2022, Reverend Lusk took on the assignment of keeping the doors of FDCS open so that children in Chester have access to rich learning learning experiences in a safe, nurturing environment. This year’s Golf Classic continues his commitment to investing gin comms cities through investing in young people and their education. Past supporters of the event have included: First Trust Bank, PECO. Brandywine Realty Trust, UPS, FMC Corporation, Eastern University, Temple University, and The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. Frederick Douglass Christian School is a part of the Dr. Lusk’s 40-year journey of serving the underserved. After leaving his position as a Running Back with the Philadelphia Eagles for full-time ministry, he became Pastor of Greater Exodus Baptist Church in North Philadelphia in 1982. Seven years later, he founded the non-profit, People for People, Inc. (PFP.) Pastor Lusk remained connected to the Philadelphia Eagles, serving as Lead Chaplain.

Today, Greater Exodus and PFP continue to support families locally and abroad through educational, social, economic, and workforce development initiatives.

Since 1955, Frederick Douglass Christian School has aimed to provide excellence in education, character development, and spiritual health. Through faith, love, and education the school equips students with the building blocks needed to create bright futures for themselves and their community. its and enrollment of 60 students. the school continues to be a beacon of hope in the economically-challenges cite of Chester, currently serving children in grades Pre-K to 8. Its small small size allows for individualized instruction and the space to meet the many needs of the families beyond the classroom. No family is turned away, regardless of their ability to afford tuition.
