Summer Opportunities…

Dear Friends,
I wanted to take the occasion of this mid-point in the year to thank you for your support and update you on our summertime activity. July 4 is a time we celebrate the opportunity of our great nation and our charter school embraces this opportunity by “incorporating entrepreneurship.” Now that our classrooms are empty we’ve gone to work preparing for next year, which will include the opportunity of offering grade 12.
The expansion of our high school is an opportunity to consolidate our upper grades into one space, which means moving offices and even a few walls. What spaces are not under construction are being used by ongoing programs like Project D.A.D., Hope Pregnancy Center and the Early Childhood Development Center. Some of our programs actually expand in the summer and all require additional resources to provide the opportunity to learn and grow.
Some unique summer programs include Work Ready, which “addresses the skills gap for vulnerable young people.” (see workready.org) Another summer program is Youth Works, who “join local efforts addressing food insecurities within local neighborhoods.” (see youthworks.com) While these opportunities are self-sustaining they put an increased demand on our facilities throughout the summer.
